File Transfer Tips with Detto's Products

To use Detto products at optimum speeds and for flawless migrations of information, here are some steps to help achieve a perfect migration prior to installing our software.

  • Detto products may require activation prior to using the software, please ensure that a connection to the internet is available on the old computer.
  • Right-click and Close, Exit or Disable any programs (e.g. Anti-Virus) that are running in the Systray, which is located next to the computer clock in the Start Bar.
  • If you plan to use the USB Transport Cable, remove any unneeded USB devices that may interfere with our USB Transport cables.
  • If you plan to use the Parallel Transport Cable, please disconnect and remove all printer software from the Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel and delete all printer icons in the Printers folder in the Control Panel.
  • Disable power options and screensavers so our process runs consistently and does not need to share processor or RAM memory. You can locate these under Control Panel and by double-clicking the Display icon and going to the Screensaver tab.
  • Delete all items out of Windows Explorer under the C:\Windows\Temp directory, the Recycle Bin, and any unused files off your old computer in order to make plenty of space on the old computer for creating a profile. This can easily be done using DISK CLEANUP under System Tools from the START\ACCESSORIES\ menu. This will speed up profile transfer times.
  • Empty Internet Cache. If you do a lot of surfing, your cache may get bloated; therefore, the possibility of unnecessary information will be transferred over to the new computer. This can be accomplished by opening an Internet Explorer window and clicking on the Tools menu and selecting Internet Options. An option will appear titled Temporary Internet Files, and then click on the Delete Files button.
  • Run SCANDISK. This optimizes your computer's operation and recovers lost space being held by lost data. This allows us to take less time searching for files. Scandisk is located under Start, Programs, Accessories and System Tool menu.
  • Defrag the hard drive. Over time, files can get fragmented and spread all over the drive, causing the drive to have to look all over the place in order to operate. Defragmenting the drive increases performance, while recovering lost space and speeds up the Detto profile creation process. Defrag is located under Start, Programs, Accessories and System Tool menu.
