  1. None of my Quicken files came across, how do I get my information across?

Known Issue: Currently, The Quicken application is not supported through the Detto products. A workaround to move a Quicken file between two computers is to simply create a backup file on the OLD computer, copy it over with the bundled program called File Transfer Utility and then restore it on the NEW computer.

    Backing up Quicken data:

    1. From the File menu in the Quicken program, choose Backup (or press CTRL+B).
    2. Select the C:\ drive and the MY DOCUMENTS folder, then select an option for File to Back Up and click OK.
    3. When Quicken tells you that the backup is complete, click OK.

Then with the File Transfer Utility program that is bundled with all Detto products, you can copy the file over from the OLD to the NEW computer and restore the Quicken data file.

    Restoring Quicken data:

    1. Open the Quicken program.
    2. From the File menu, choose Restore Backup File (Restore in older products).
    3. Select the location of where the file resides.
    4. Click OK.
    5. In the File name box, enter the name of the backup file exactly as shown in the window above, or select the backup file in the window.
    6. Click OK.

Note: When you restore from a backup file, Quicken will overwrite the current file if it has the same name as the Quicken file stored on the backup disk. Be aware that you will lose any changes you have made to the current file since the backup was made.

  2. I've run IntelliMover once but I forgot something, can I run the IntelliMover process again?

We do not recommend that you run the full IntelliMover migration process more that once, however the file Transfer Utility that is installed with IntelliMover can be used as many times as you wish to move files between your two computers.

  3. What if I have duplicate file names, i.e. different files on my new computer but with the same names as files on my old computer, will I lose them?

No files are lost or overwritten during a migration process. If you have files on both the old and new computer with the same names, IntelliMover will identify whether or not they are different, if they are the file on the new computer will be renamed according to the following format: "Original copy of filename".

  4. I am receiving a Software Installation warning message while trying to install IntelliMover that states "The software you are installing has not passed Windows Logo testing to verify its compatibility with Windows XP.". What does this mean?

This is not a problem with the IntelliMover software, but simply a matter of timing. Due to delivery schedules from Detto's PC manufacturing partners and Microsoft's schedule of XP, we were unable to complete formal USB cable driver certifications on some previous versions of our product. Microsoft has since certified the same drivers that you are installing as meeting and exceeding all certification necessary for compliance.

How to proceed: When presented with the dialogue box during the Install process, you will need to follow these step-by-step instructions:

    1. Click "Continue Anyway" button to proceed
    2. Click "Next" button to complete
    3. Follow all further instructions on each screen to complete the installation of IntelliMover.
  5. I am trying to transfer my profile from the OLD computer to my NEW computer, but the next button on the NEW computer is grayed out (not available).

Indication #1: The Next button on the new computer's Set Up: Connect the Data Transfer Cable dialog box does not become available even after the cable is connected (IntelliMover). See the following screen shot.

Additional Indications: The mouse moves very erratically or slowly while IntelliMover (Parallel) is waiting for connection. Also, the general system performance of the two computers is seriously degraded while waiting for connection. These symptoms are due to the fact that the two computers are constantly pinging each other in an attempt to establish connectivity. These symptoms generally do not appear with the USB versions.

Resolution: Make certain that the Transfer Status: Waiting for Connection dialog box (as shown below) is displaying on the old computer.

If the Prepare to Transfer / Set Up Your New Computer dialog box (as shown below) is displaying instead, then click the Finish button to proceed.

The above resolution steps normally resolve 90% of our customers issues, if you are still not successful with displaying the next button please try these additional steps according to which version of the Detto Intellimover software (USB or Parallel versions) you have.

    For IntelliMover Parallel Users:

The problem with the next button issue is due to Windows operating system not wanting to release the port to our software for communications. This problem usually is the result of some printer (or some other parallel device) software that was installed on the computers. Therefore Windows assigns that parallel port (LPT1) to that device and will not allow our software to gain access to that port, hence no next button.

Here are some steps that may help you establish connectivity:

    1. Please remove all printer software from the Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel.
    2. Delete all printer icons in the Printers folder in the Control Panel.
    3. Reboot the computer.
    4. Run the file Transfer Utility program on both computers (please refer to your Quick Reference Guide for specific instructions) to check for connectivity between the computers, if connectivity is established please proceed to step 5.
    5. Close the file Transfer Utility Program on both computers.
    6. n Windows Explorer on the old computer, run the FTU.exe program located under C:\Program Files\Detto\Intellimover folder.
    7. Run the Intellimover program on the new computer from the Start, Programs, and Detto Intellimover menu.

    For IntelliMover USB Users:

If you are having problems with connectivity using the Detto Intellimover USB version of our product, please try these steps to see if you can get the USB bridge cable to work.

    1. Please verify that the "USB Bridge Cable" is visible under Universal Host Controllers in the system Device Manager while the cable is plugged into the USB port.
    2. The Device Manager may be displayed by clicking on Start, Settings, and Control Panel. Then double-click the system icon; the second tab should be the Device Manager. In Windows 2000 or XP, device manager will be under the Hardware tab and then a button called Device Manager.
    3. If the USB Bridge Cable is not there then disconnect the cable and click on the Refresh button.
    4. Reconnect the USB Bridge Cable and note what name the cable is showing up as. for example, it may be showing up under Other Devices as an Unknown Device. This usually means that the Windows operating system does not have the correct driver loaded for the USB Bridge Cable.
    5. To load the correct driver for the USB Bridge Cable, please double-click the unknown device and click the Driver tab.
    6. Then click on Update Driver button, the correct driver can be found on the Intellimover CD.

If you still need assistance with the steps in the steps outlined in this FAQ, please call us at (866) 754-0589.

  6. I just successfully ran the Detto Intellimover program, I wanted to move additional files between my computers with file Transfer Utility program but I cannot get it to work (establish connectivity between the computers).

Known Issue: Please sure make you reboot the OLD computer also so that Windows can release some files that may be still be in use from the Intellimover process.

  7. I keep getting an error upon installing the Detto program that I have an Unsupported Internet Explorer Version. I am a Netscape user?

Please visit the Microsoft Website for an updated version of Internet Explorer 4.01 or greater. Detto products rely heavily on updated Windows DLL and system files that are installed with updated Internet Explorer applications.

  8. During the Profile - Searching my computer process, the Applications section keeps starting over (or appears to be scrolling).

This is normal functionality of the product; it will start over for each and every application that is installed on the OLD computer.

  9. Why do I get an "Error: Different Intellimover Versions Detected" message when I run the Detto Migration Kit from the desktop icon on the NEW computer?

You will need to install the new IntelliMover CD to the NEW computer as well as the OLD computer in order to fix this problem and upgrade the program on the NEW computer.

  10. Why do I get a Controller Error when Detto Migration Kit is searching for web browsers?

  11. Does the Detto Intellimover delete files off my OLD computer after I move them to my NEW computer?

No, Detto products do not erase, delete or overwrite any files off your computers.

  12. When I try to install the Detto Intellimover I receive an error "Ikernel caused and Invalid Page Fault" it also says, "Setup failed to launch installation engine." "When I try to install the Detto Intellimover I receive an error "Setup failed to launch installation engine: Error loading type library/DLL".

This is a known issue involving InstallShield and Windows operating systems; this issue can occur when there are damaged files in the C:\Program Files\Common Files\Install Shield folder. The Install Shield folder is similar to C:\WINDOWS\TEMP folder. After you install the program, the contents of this folder are no longer needed or used.

Here are some things you may want to try:

    1. Please verify that you do not have insufficient permissions on the machine. You need to have administrative permissions to run an InstallShield, which is used to install Detto products. Make sure you have the correct permissions.
    2. Delete the Install Shield folder and clean out the Temp directory.
      • Start Windows Explorer
      • Browse to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Install Shield.
      • Right-click the folder, and then click Delete on the shortcut menu.
      • When the confirmation message appears, click Yes.
      • Browse to C:\Windows\Temp
      • Delete the contents of the Temp directory.
      • When the confirmation message appears, click Yes.
    3. Restart your computer.
    4. Reinstall the Detto program.

The other potential cause is a missing Stdole.tlb file. This is a core Windows file and should exist on your machine. If you are trying to install to a Windows 98 machine, download and run Dcom98.exe from the following site:
    http://www.microsoft.com/com/dcom/dcom98/download.asp

Reinstalling Internet Explorer (IE) 5.x can also repair a number of corrupted/missing core Windows files from your machine, so reinstalling IE 5.x might be another solution.

  16. Will Detto products move over my programs that I downloaded from the Internet?

If the program is a free downloadable program, the best solution is to download the program again to the new computer so you can have the latest updates for that program. If it is a program that you purchased from the Internet please refer back to the vendor of the downloaded program.

  17. I just ran the Intellimover program; I cannot locate any of my files that were transferred from the old computer to the new one.

IntelliMover has recorded the location of every file that was transferred from your old computer to your new computer in the File Resolution Report (fileresolution.txt). This file has been placed on your desktop of your new computer for your convenience. You can refer to this report to determine where IntelliMover has placed your personal files and folders on your new computer.

  18. I just used the Intellimover program, the program brought over some things to the newer computers operating system that I did not want.

No, unfortunately there is no way of undoing the Detto Intellimover process. The only way to revert the operating system back to the original condition is to use the Windows operating system tool called "system Restore". This program allows you to restore the computer to an earlier point in time. It can be found from the START menu under ALL PROGRAMS, ACCESSORIES, and SYSTEM TOOLS. We are considering an Undo feature in future product releases.

  19. My new product is damaged, how do I get it replaced?
