Question:
What do I do with the old machine and a concept called Product Stewardship.
We always recommend scrubbing confidential data from your computer equipment.
Many of us have specific uses for our old machines and take care to
thoughtfully dispose of these machines through gifting, selling, donating
to family or friends etc. Sometimes they simply remain in our garage
of other storage facility and become so obsolete they offer no value
to schools, charities or other organizations that could make use of
them. What options do we have?
- Sell it, many options are available to you from eBay®
to the classified section of your local newspaper.
- Donate it, many organizations will take your equipment and you
can help someone else as well as obtain a tax deduction. http://www.heartsandminds.org/links/computers.htm
- Recycle it.

With 50 years of televisions and 25 years of computer equipment, the
handling of used electronic products represents a large waste management
puzzle. The future of electronics recycling is moving toward a concept
called Product Stewardship. Product Stewardship is an environmental
management strategy that contends whoever designed, produced, sold or
used a product should take responsibility for minimizing the products
environmental impact.
Now, many
of our partners are working to ensure the equipment they sell is re-used
or re-cycled to benefit more people and extend the useful life of the
equipment. Valuable information can be found at the following sites:
