MAY 2003 TIP OF THE MONTH:
How To Avoid Moving Unwanted Internet Files or Emails to Your New Computer
It's great to get a fresh start on a new computer, but it would be a shame if you ended up wasting disk space on it with unwanted files from your old PC. Here's a way to prevent that from happening, whether you move manually or via migration software:

Empty Internet Cache.

If you do a lot of surfing, your cache may have an excessive amount of unwanted files, and there's the possibility of unnecessary information being transferred over to the new computer. You can easily remove this data by opening Internet Explorer, clicking on the Tools menu and selecting Internet Options. An option will appear titled Temporary Internet Files. Click on the Delete Files button to remove the data.

Emails

If you use a POP3 mail program, like Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express, or Eudora, and store your email locally on your PC, then you have probably got some emails that you don't need anymore. Search through your email folders, and delete unwanted messages - particularly those with attachments - and you can drastically reduce the size of your mail folders.
