There are two ways to migrate to a new computer,
the easy way, with migration software, or the hard way (manually)
If you do not have experience with moving data and settings
between computers, you may want to save yourself some time
and frustration and opt to use migration software to the work
for you.
Most migration products come with software
and a cable(s). The cable(s) could be parallel or serial (for
migrating from Windows 95 PCs), or faster USB cables. Some
newer systems are equipped with Ethernet cards built-in to
their system and will allow for you to use a network or cross-over
cable (peer-to-peer or machine-to-machine) to migrate. If
you choose a product that does not include cables, be sure
to know the specific type of Parallel, USB or Network cable
that you need since the most common cables you will find in
your local computer store are device cables that typically
do not work with migration software.
Products that include a cable(s) typically
are the easiest to use since the software has been designed
to work seamlessly with the cable that is provided.
Migration software is very easy! Just run
the software, select what to migrate, connect a cable between
the two computers, and kick back and let the transfer begin.
- All
your files and folders will be set up for you on your new
computer, just as they were on the old PC.
- Migrations
will take about 20 minutes to move 500MB of data. If you
have lots of music or photos, it can take longer, but once
the product is running you can leave and come back later.

- It
will cost you less than $50. And save you from hours of
do-it-yourself hassles and frustrations (see image below)
