Packing
up and moving all your things from one
place to another can be stressful, whether
the destination is a new house or a new
computer, and a cross-platform move may
even seem more daunting than a cross-country
relocation. For those who are jumping
from a Windows machine to a new Macintosh
computer, the new Move2Mac
kit from Detto Technologies can make transferring
files quicker and easier than copying
them all onto Zip disks or burning a stack
of CD's.
Move2Mac
includes a special U.S.B. cable and software
that can move photos, documents, spreadsheets,
folders and music files between machines.
Address book, database files, Internet
Explorer favorites and certain system
settings can also be transferred from
PC to Mac, and it takes about 15 minutes
to move 500 megabytes of data.
The
Move2Mac kit works with PC's running Windows
98 and later and Macs running the 10.2
"Jaguar" version of the Macintosh
operating system. (A version of the kit
with a parallel-to-U.S.B. adapter cable
for Windows 95 users and older PC's without
U.S.B. ports will be available later this
year.)
For
those sticking with Windows, Detto also
makes IntelliMover - a PC-to-PC transfer
kit that can move files, e-mail address
books, Internet connection settings, bookmarks
and more from one Windows system to another
and put everything in the right place.
Move2Mac is available with a USB cable
from www.detto.com
for $59.95. IntelliMover is available
in both USB cable or Parallel cable versions
for $49.95 each.
