  1. Does Move2Mac convert PC files to Mac format?

    Move2Mac transfers files from the PC to the Mac. Move2Mac does not move applications or convert PC files to Mac format. Most applications which have a PC version and a Mac version, such as Microsoft Office, can open PC files on the Mac without any conversion.

  2. What happens to my folders that are on the PC?

    Move2Mac moves folders from the PC to the Mac and preserves the folder structure. For example, the Windows folder My Documents, its contents, and its subfolders, are moved to the Mac and placed in the appropriate Documents folder.

  3. Can Move2Mac's USB cable be used elsewhere?

    Move2Mac's USB cable contains a chip to optimize Move2Mac data transfer, but cannot be used for other purposes.

  4. Does Move2Mac migrate email?

    Move2Mac will move and convert the address book and POP3 settings for Outlook Express on the PC to Mac OS X Mail.

  5. Will Move2Mac move files from the Mac to the PC?

    Move2Mac only moves files from the PC to the Mac.

  6. What is the transfer rate for Move2Mac?

    Move2Mac can transfer 500 MB in 15 minutes over USB.

  7. How many versions of Move2Mac are there?

    Move2Mac comes in two versions:
    USB version: For Windows® 98, 98SE, Millennium, 2000, XP and PCs with a USB port.
    Parallel-to-USB version: For Windows 95, or PCs with no USB port.

  8. Can I use Move2Mac for migrations on more than one computer?

    A single user license of Move2Mac allows multiple migrations from one, and only one, specific PC to any number of Macs. To migrate from another PC requires an additional copy of Move2Mac. Volume license packs of Move2Mac are available.

  9. How do I find what Move2Mac has transferred to my Mac?

    Please locate and read the "Move2Mac Migration Report Alias" located on the desktop of your new Mac.

  10. What are the system requirements?

    • Microsoft® Windows® 95, 98, 98SE, Millennium, 2000, and XP
    • 30 MB hard disk space
    • 32MB RAM
    • AC Adaptor (for notebooks)
    • Mac OS X 10.2 (Jaguar) and later

  11. Are repeat migrations allowed with Move2Mac?

    With the exception of Address Book, repeat migrations of settings are not allowed. Repeat migrations on address book may cause data duplication.

  12. Will Move2Mac work on earlier versions before 10.2?

    Installing on Mac OS versions prior to 10.2 is not supported and not obvious as to the nature of the problem.

  13. Will Move2Mac transfer my passwords stored on my PC?

    As a matter of policy, Detto does not migrate passwords.

  14. Are all background pictures supported with Move2Mac?

    Background wallpaper on windows 2000 may not migrated due to the OS BMP compression.

  15. My Outlook Express POP3 email account that was transferred to my Mac Mail seems to be improperly configured.

    Some Email Anti-virus agents use mechanisms that will cause your Outlook Express POP3 email settings be improperly configured. Correct this by simply re-entering the correct Email account settings in the Macintosh Mail.App.

  16. Are all online messenger services (text chat tools) supported with Move2Mac?

    The only instant messenger supported is AOL Instant Messenger (AIM). Netscape and Microsoft instant messengers are not supported.

  17. Are Dial-up networking connections supported with Move2Mac?

    Dial-up networking connections are currently only supported if the user is logged in as root on the Mac.

  18. Why didn't my Internet Explorer Home page migrate to my new Mac?

    IE Homepage will only be migrated if IE has been initialized (run once) on the Mac.

  19. I disconnected my USB accidentally while I was transferring my profile to my Mac, now I cannot reestablish a connection?

    This is a known issue, there are some circumstances where a cable disconnect (unplugging) during the transfer may not resume the migration after plugging the cable back in. Please try unplugging both sides of the USB Bridge Cable and then plug in the Mac first then the PC.

  20. Will Move2Mac convert Windows files to Mac format?

    Move2Mac transfers files from the PC to the Mac. Move2Mac does not move applications or convert PC files to Mac format. Most programs which have a PC version and a Mac version (like Microsoft Office) can open PC files on the Mac without any conversion. Note that there are a few programs (for example Quicken®) whose PC files require conversion to Mac format before the files can be used on the Mac. Many user data file formats are standard across different platforms. Examples of these are TXT, JPG, GIF, and MP3. Others files may be a created by a particular application. For these types of documents (examples include mail files, word processing, spreadsheets) you will need to use an appropriate application on the Mac to read these files.

  21. Does Move2Mac move files back and forth between the PC and the Mac?

    Move2Mac only moves files from the PC to the Mac.

  22. How do I get my Outlook® or Outlook Express® email over to the Mac?

    Our research shows that Netscape? 7.0 mail offers the easiest way in which to move Outlook and Outlook Express to the Mac. The process involves you importing your email into Netscape? Mail. Move2Mac will then transfer the Netscape mail folders to the Mac, and then you can easily import them into other mail applications. Netscape 7.0 PC and Mac versions are included in the Move2Mac CD, along with a Conversion Guide to step you through the process.

  23. Does Move2Mac migrate my Outlook Express (OE) address book and POP3 settings over?

    Move2Mac will move the OE address book into the Mac Address Book, and will move the OE POP3 settings into Mac Mail.

  24. How do I get my Communicator or Eudora email over to the Mac?

    Move2Mac will transfer over Communicator and Eudora mail to the Mac, where they can be imported into Netscape Mail, Eudora, or Mac Mail. In the Select Files to Transfer dialog in Move2Mac, check the box beside Communicator or Eudora, and the files will be transferred over.

  25. Can Move2Mac's USB cable be used elsewhere?

    Move2Mac's USB cable contains a chip to optimize Move2Mac data transfer, but cannot be used for other purposes.

    Note: Netscape stores its email in an open standard file format that is importable by most mail applications on the Mac. Using Netscape is one method to convert your email data to a form that will be most easily imported by various Mac Email clients. This PC Netscape email profile is placed at "~\Migrated PC Files\Netscape Mail".

  30. Where does Move2Mac put all my data when it transfers it to the Mac?

    Move2Mac will automatically determine the appropriate Mac destination location and place the data there. Many files will be in your Documents, Pictures, and Music folders. Other data will be conveniently located in the "Documents\Migrated PC Files" folder with a similar folder structure as existed on the PC.

  31. Can I migrate between two Macs?

    Currently the Move2Mac product will only support migrations from a PC to a Mac.

  32. Can I use Move2Mac to migrate through my network?

    Currently the Move2Mac product will only support migration using our USB Bridge Cable.

  33. What operating systems does Move2Mac support?

    On the PC side: A Microsoft Windows operating systems version (98 First Edition, 98 Second Edition, Millennium, Windows 2000 and Windows XP)
    On the Mac side: Apple OS X - Version 10.2 and later.

  34. Will Move2Mac move viruses from my PC to my new Mac?

    In order to prevent from transferring any viruses to your new Mac; Detto Technologies recommends that you install the appropriate updated Anti-virus software on your old PC and scan before transferring anything to your Mac.

    For installation on the PC, please:

    1. Ensure that you have local administrator rights if you are running on Windows 2000 or Windows XP.
    2. Insert the Move2Mac CD-ROM into the CD-ROM Drive on the PC.
    3. Please go into MY COMPUTER and double-click the Move2Mac CD, there you will be able to launch Setup.exe file which is located on the Move2Mac CD-ROM under the "PC Install Files" folder.

    For installation on the Mac, please:

    1. Insert the Move2Mac CD-ROM into the CD-ROM Drive on the Mac.
    2. Open the Move2Mac CD from the desktop, then open the "Mac Install Files" folder and double click on Move2Mac.pkg.

  38. Why didn't my home page from the PC migrate to the Mac?

    IE Homepage will only be migrated if IE has been initialized (run once) on the Mac. Some URLs are excluded from the migration.

  39. I followed the instructions to install Netscape on my PC under the Conversion Guide but my mail or its settings are not showing up under the "Migrate Your Computer Settings" dialog box when running Move2Mac.

    Please be sure the installation target directory for Netscape was installed under the default location the program suggests otherwise Move2Mac will not query for it.

  40. The Move2Mac Profile is doubled in size on the Mac when transferring the profile from the PC to the Mac.

    Known Issue, please disregard this miscalculation.

  41. AOL Instant Messenger settings did not migrate to the Mac.

    Please be sure that customer has at least launched the iChat application at least once on the Mac. A dummy account can be used.
